Chapman athletes recognized on SCIAC All-Academic teams

Chapman University student-athletes were well-represented during the 2013-14 academic year as the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference named its All-Academic teams by sport. Leading the way for the Panthers was women’s soccer, which garnered a conference-best 14 honorees.

Cross country notches two All-Region awards with top-20 finishes

A pair of top-20 finishes for the Chapman University men’s and women’s cross country team gave the Panthers their first All-West Region honorees since 2005. Sophomore Chris Reid placed 18th overall in the men’s 8-kilometers with a school record time of 25:55.8. Freshman Sara Wanous also placed 18th in the women’s 6-kilometers, just 8 seconds shy of her own school record with a time of 23:04.4.

Wanous places 11th at SCIAC Championships

Chapman University freshman runner Sara Wanous placed 11th at the SCIAC Women’s Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Prado Park, pacing the Panthers to a seventh-place team finish in the conference standings. The rookie finished the 6-kilometers at 24:05.56 and was just 9 seconds off the top-10 pace and less than 1:03 behind first-place finisher Melissa Skiba from Cal Lutheran.

With the SCIAC Championships looming, the Chapman University cross country team put their best foot forward on Saturday at the SCIAC Multi-Dual Meet in La Mirada. Freshman Sara Wanous led the women’s team to a seventh place finish, outscoring La Verne and Caltech while sophomore Chris Reid paced the men’s team for the fourth straight meet this season.

In what some might consider a watershed moment for its Athletic Hall of Fame and another victory for Title IX, Chapman University will enshrine an all-female class in its 34th annual Athletics Hall of Fame ceremony and banquet on Saturday, Oct. 26.

Freshman runner Sara Wanous took down another school record on Saturday, finishing the 6k race in 23:36.2 as the Chapman University women’s cross country team earned a ninth place finish at the Pomona-Pitzer Cross Country Invitational.

Freshman outruns all SCIAC opponents, setting D3 record in debut race

Freshman Sara Wanous set a Division III school record on Saturday, leading the Chapman University women’s cross country team to an 11th place finish at the UC Riverside Cross Country Invitational. Wanous outpaced all SCIAC opponents with a record time of 18:39.7 in the women’s 5k race as the Panthers finished ahead of five SCIAC schools with a score of 299.

Familiar face leads Chapman cross country in opener

Sophomore Chris Reid picked up where he left last season, pacing the Chapman University cross country team as both the men’s and women’s squads opened the season at the UC Irvine Invitational on Saturday morning. Freshman Cathryne Ramirez was the Panthers’ top runner on the women’s side.
