Pack mentality: Women's XC places 11th at Pomona

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Chapman University women's cross country team placed 11th out of 17 teams at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Saturday morning, while the Panther men did not place. Chapman's pack running on the women's side has been paying off in its first two races of the year as its top three runners all came in within a minute of each other and the top five within 1:34.

Sophomore Cathryne Ramirez paced Chapman with a time of 24:01 - her career best - in the 6-kilometer race. She came in 52nd place overall among 194 competitors. Right behind her was sophomore Cori Stemper who placed 60th with a mark of 24:21.0.

Rounding out the Panthers' top-five were sophomore Michiko Yee (83rd) with a time of 24:58.3, sophomore Jessica Selby (94th) at 25:18.9 and freshman Ashley Kaplan (105th) at 25:35.4. Chapman was 11th overall, but fifth amongst seven SCIAC schools.

On the men's side, junior Chris Reid came in 67th place out of 182 runners with a mark of 26:52.4 in the 8-kilometers, just two seconds shy of his mark in the same event last season. The Panther men did not have enough participants to qualify for team scoring.

Next up for the Chapman men and women is the SCIAC Multi-Duals in La Mirada on Friday, Oct. 17 at 4:30 p.m.
