Women's XC takes sixth at SCIAC Multi-Duals

LA MIRADA, Calif. – The Chapman University women's cross country team continued to show marked improvement within the conference, earning a sixth-place finish at the SCIAC Multi-Dual Meet at La Mirada Park on Friday afternoon. The Panthers had four runners place among the top-50 finishers, led by sophomore Cathryne Ramirez who crossed the finish line less than one second shy of the school record in the 6 kilometers.

Ramirez placed 20th overall with a time of 22:57.06, just 1:13 behind race leader Sara Mostatabi from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. The Chapman record belongs to sophomore teammate Sara Wanous who ran the same track in 22:56.24 last October.

Sophomores Cori Stemper (23:38.91) and Jessica Selby (23:43.82) weren't far off Ramirez's pace coming in 36th and 38th place, respectively. Sophomore Michiko Yee placed 47th with a mark of 24:08.09. All three finishing times were career bests for the sophomores.

On the men's side, the Panthers placed last of the nine SCIAC schools. Junior Chris Reid got out to a quick start, but couldn't maintain the pace and fell back to 43rd overall with a time of 27:34.95 – 43 seconds off his pace in the same race last season.

Chapman's next run will be in the SCIAC Championships at Prado Park on Nov. 1 beginning at 9 a.m.
