Cross country earns school-best team finish at SCIAC Championships

CHINO, Calif. – The Chapman University women's cross country team earned its highest-finish ever at the SCIAC Championships on a soggy Saturday morning at Prado Park, earning a sixth-place finish and narrowly missing fifth place by a single point in the overall scoring.

For the second time this season and first since the season-opening meet at UC Riverside, sophomore Cori Stemper paced the Chapman women with a 25th place finish on the 6-kilometer course. Stemper (25:15.87) edged teammate and fellow sophomore Cathryne Ramirez (25:22.71) by less than seven seconds with both finishing in under 25 and a half minutes. Ramirez claimed 29th place overall.

Sophomore Jessica Selby (38th, 25:56.03), sophomore Michiko Yee (48th, 26:24.90) and freshman Megan Ernst (56th, 26:49.15) rounded out the Panthers' top-five scoring women with 117 runners competing from nine schools.

The Panther men placed ninth out of the nine conference schools, but were led by top finisher junior Chris Reid who placed 25th overall in the 8-kilometers, despite heavy rains during the race. Reid crossed the finish line at 27:14.13, just 23 seconds off his time on the same track last season.

Both men's and women's teams will travel to Salem, Ore. on Nov. 15 for the NCAA Division III West Regionals, hosted by Willamette University.
