Cross Country season to open at UC Riverside on Saturday

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's and women's cross country teams will kick off their 2015 campaign on Saturday with the women running at 8:45 a.m. and the men running at 9:15 a.m. The Panthers head to the Inland Empire for their season-opening meet at the 2015 UC Riverside Invitational.

The young Chapman women's team will be led by four juniors, including Jessica SelbyCathryne Ramirez, Sara Delucchi and Michiko Yee. The Panthers will also feature newcomer junior Izzy Howerton, a pair of sophomores Megan Ernst and Erika Mejia and five freshmen.

Chapman will rely heavily on Ramirez who earned All-Region honors in the 2014 season by placing in the top 40 finishers in the women's race at the NCAA Division III West Regionals. Yee and Selby will help pace the Panthers after placing in the top 75 overall at the West Regionals.

Senior captain Chris Reid will return to lead the men's team and will be joined by a youthful team of five freshmen. Reid earned All-Region honors in back-to-back seasons and holds the Chapman 8k record from the 2013 season after running a 25:55.8 at the Pomona-Pitzer Invite.

Chapman will toe the line for the first time this season Saturday at the UC Riverside Invitational and travels to the Pomona-Pitzer Invite on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 7:45 a.m.
