Panthers run well at Pomona-Pitzer Invitational

CLAREMONT, Calif. – Toeing the line for the second time this season, the Chapman University men's and women's cross country teams competed against firm competition at Blanchard Park Wash at the Pomona-Pitzer Cross Country Invitational. The women's team finished 11th in the 6K and the men's team finished 14th in the 8K.

Pacing the men's team once again was senior Chris Reid who finished the 33rd in the 8K with a 26:22.51 time just a .9 seconds shy of his pace at the Panthers opening meet at UC Riverside. Freshman Christian Colwell finished in the top-100 with a career-best of 27:45.05.

Freshman Henry Butler followed up his freshman debut with a time of 28:45.33 finishing third for the Panthers and shaving nearly an entire minute off of his personal-best.

The women's team finished ninth overall in the 6K with three Panthers breaking the 25-minute mark. Freshman Nika Cokas paced the Panthers for the second time this season finishing 66th with a time of 23:56.43.

Freshman Sheridan Scifres and junior Michiko Yee finished in the top-100. Scrifes finished 81st with a time of 24:27.93, while Yee set a personal-best of 24:48.12.

Rounding out the top-five for the Panthers was freshman Alexis Cardenas at 25:13.31 and Mia Hernandez who finished with a time of 25:25.42.

Chapman will take a two week break before toeing the line at the SCIAC-Multi Duals in La Mirada for its third race of the season set at 9 a.m. for Saturday, Oct. 17.
