Strong showing with multiple PRs at Pomona-Pitzer Invite

ORANGE, Calif. –  Chapman University men's and women's cross country teams ran in the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational this weekend with the men placing sixth overall and fifth among SCIAC teams and the women placing ninth overall and sixth among SCIAC teams. Three of the women recorded season-bests in the 6K race.

Freshman Avery Cardosi ran a career-best with a time of 24:11.54, pacing the Panthers and beating her previous PR by eight seconds and coming in 39th. Only 10 seconds later than Cardosi was senior Cathryne Ramirez who also reached a season-best time of 24:21.93, beating her previous best by four seconds.

The next three Panthers to cross the line all came within 30 seconds of each other. Freshman Mallory Jones shattered her previous career-best by over a minute and a half, coming in at 26:41.56. Freshman Rina Miyoshi finished just four second later.

The men's side was led by freshman Elijah Orr, who placed 17th with a time of 26:16.47 in the 8K. Finishing just one second apart to come in 57th and 58th were freshmen Ben Wasserman and Drake Butler. Coming in at a time of 27:58.52 was freshman Tomas Aragone, placing 71st overall.

Freshman Erick Garcia came in with a time of 28:35.87, followed by sophomore Jonah Soltes and freshman Evan Richardson, who finished within one minute of each other. Sophomores Josh Tam and Philip Bui rounded out the Panther side, coming in at times of 31:14.78 and 31:51.95 respectively.

The Panthers will travel to Chino, Calif. on Oct. 29 for the SCIAC Championships.
