Cross country newcomers open season at Mark Covert Classic

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University cross country teams began the 2022 season at the Mark Covert Classic. The men's team placed eighth among 13 teams while the women's team sent four runners.

Chapman brought mostly freshmen to their first meet on a hot Saturday in Fullerton, Calif. Luke Valerio led the young group of Panthers with a 27:42.4. Graedon Beeler ran a 28:08.2 as all the Panther newcomers ran in their first 8k race of their careers. Alejandro Aguirre Ramirez finished with a time of 28:11.9

As a team, the Chapman men took eighth with a score of 256 and an average time of 28:19.

Sophomore Kendall Clark led the four women that ran in the meet with a time of 21:08.9. Maddie Meyer's 21:40.9 was next for the Panthers and Jaida Sieu followed at 23:04.9.

The Panthers head to the Cougar Challenge in San Marcos, Calif. on Sep. 24 for their next meet.
