Bio

Barron Maizland joined the Chapman coaching staff in the fall of 2018 to work with the cross country team and track & field distance runners. He served as th Interim Head Coach of the cross country and track & field programs for the 2021 track & field season. He is a USATF Level 1 certified coach.

In his first cross country season, Maizland helped Arabella Reece become the first female and second Panther ever to qualify for the Division III Cross Country National Championships. He also helped the 2019 Chapman track & field teams to their highest championship point totals at the SCIAC Championships. In 2021, he had another cross country national qualifier in Maddie Mirro and saw the men's 6k record broken.

Maizland was an accomplished runner at the collegiate level. He was an NCAA Division II All-American in the Steeplechase in 2015 for CSU Chico. As a Wildcat, he was a 3-time NCAA Nationals finalist. He was also the California State Steeplechase Champion at Orange Coast College and holds the school record.

Since the completion of his eligibility, Maizland’s coaching career began at Foothill High School in nearby Tustin, and continued at California State University, Chico, last year. 

Maizland continues to compete post-collegiately, placing runner-up at the 2018 Dutch National Championships in the steeplechase. His goal is to qualify for the Dutch National Team.
