Boesel Announces Athletics Staff Changes

ORANGE, Calif. – Director of Athletics Terry Boesel announced changes to Chapman Athletics administrative staff effective immediately. Doug Aiken, previously the Sports Information Director, was promoted to Associate Director of Athletics and Steven Olveda has been hired as the new Sports Information Director.

Aiken takes on his new role after 16 years as Chapman’s SID and will oversee all matters relating to NCAA rules and legislation, compliance and eligibility and the university’s physical activity curriculum. He graduated from Chapman in 1999 and was immediately hired as the SID. Over the past 16 years, Aiken was instrumental to the growth of Chapman's communications efforts which have become much more interactive for Panther fans with various social media platforms, live video and stats offered from home sporting events and the branding of ChapmanAthletics.com.

Beyond his work in athletics, Doug has also taught several classes at Chapman, including Sports Public Relations - an upper-division elective as part of Dodge College of Media Arts. He has served as a member of the Chapman Athletics Hall of Fame committee. He also served as assistant and associate head coach of the Chapman softball program for nine seasons from 2002-10. In 2011, he was named as one of the "150 Faces of Chapman".

He also earned his master’s degree in organizational leadership from Chapman in 2009.

During his time as SID, Aiken has mentored many Chapman students who have also pursued a career in athletics, including Olveda. Olveda returns to Chapman where he was one of Aiken’s student assistants from 2006-08. He earned his bachelor’s degree in television and broadcast journalism from Chapman in 2008.

After graduating, Olveda worked for two years as a Graduate Assistant at Boise State while earning his master’s degree in athletic administration. He became the SID at the University of Puget Sound in 2010 and, most recently, was the Associate Director of Media Relations at Long Beach State.

Both Aiken and Olveda will take over their duties immediately with the 2015 season getting underway on Sep. 1.
