Spring athletes recognized on SCIAC All-Academic teams

Forty three Chapman University spring sports student-athletes have been recognized for their achievement in the classroom by the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference which named its All-Academic teams by sport on this month. Leading the way for the Panthers was women’s track and field with 10 athletes honored.

Chapman sluggers named to ABCA All-Region squad

More postseason accolades have been credited to Chapman University junior Tyler Cook who has been named to the 2015 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Division III All-West Region team. The infielder earned second team honors and was joined on the All-Region team by sophomore DH Forrest Wiederman who was named to the third team.

Chapman University junior IF Tyler Cook has been named to the D3Baseball.com All-West Region Second Team for the 2015 season. The junior First Team All-conference selection was named Second Team All-West Region for the first time in his career.

The Chapman University baseball team had two players named to the All-SCIAC team for the 2015 season on Monday morning, junior infielders Tyler Cook and John Wiehe received all-conference honors for the first time in their careers, while freshman Jared Love was named to the sportsmanship team.

Postseason hopes erased as baseball drops a pair

The Chapman University baseball team dropped two critical SCIAC games at Hart Park on Saturday, falling to Whittier College 8-6 before losing to Pomona-Pitzer Colleges 8-3. The losses, coupled with a pair of Redlands wins, mathematically eliminated the Panthers from SCIAC Tournament contention. Chapman (22-15 overall, 15-11 SCIAC) has now lost six of its past seven games.

The Chapman University baseball team opened up its three-game series against first-place University of La Verne with a 5-3 loss on Friday afternoon at Hart Park.

Panthers drop a pair to Pomona-Pitzer at home

The Chapman University baseball team dropped a pair of games to Pomona-Pitzer colleges 7-4 and 7-4 at Hart Park on Saturday afternoon. Despite winning the series opener on Friday 16-3, the Panthers (21-11 overall, 14-7 SCIAC) fell into a four-way tie for fourth-place with Cal Lutheran, Pomona-Pitzer and Occidental after dropping the series with the Sagehens 2-1.

Panthers outhit Whittier in Game 1 of series

The Chapman University baseball team opened up its three-game series against Whittier College with a 10-2 victory over the Poets in a SCIAC game at Hart Park on Friday afternoon. The Panthers outhit Whittier 17-6 racking up three homeruns, including two by sophomore OF Joey Bernal.

Runs at a premium at Hart as baseball splits with Redlands

Runs were scarce on Saturday as the Chapman University baseball team split a doubleheader with the University of Redlands at Hart Park, but claimed the three-game weekend SCIAC series with the Bulldogs in the process. The Panthers captured the first half of the twinbill with a 1-0 win behind a five-hit shutout from junior RHP Matt Molnar, but fell 3-2 in Game 2.

The Panthers captured the first half of a twinbill with a 1-0 win behind a five-hit shutout from junior RHP Matt Molnar. The junior tossed his first career complete-game shutout, a five-hitter in just 90 pitches for his third win of the season. Molnar (3-1) struck out two and only allowed three Bulldogs to reach second base.

Six-run fifth dooms Panthers against MIT

March 24, 2015

A six-run fifth inning by the MIT baseball team provided the difference as the visiting Engineers defeated host Chapman University 8-2 at Hart Park on Tuesday night. The loss was the Panthers’ second straight and first back-to-back defeats in over a month as Chapman (15-8) played its final non-conference game of the season.

George Fox salvages finale of weekend series

The Chapman University baseball team dropped the finale of a four-game series with visiting George Fox University (Ore.), 6-1 at Hart Park on Sunday afternoon. The Bruins salvaged the last of the weekend set and in the process snapped the Panthers’ four-game winning streak.

The Chapman University baseball team continued its winning streak with a pair of wins over visiting George Fox University (Ore.) on Saturday, 8-2 and 8-6 at Hart Park. After winning the series opener on Friday 4-1, the Panthers improved to 3-0 in the four-game series against the Bruins.

The Chapman University baseball team defeated George Fox (Ore.) 4-1 on opening-day of the four-game series at Hart Park on Friday afternoon. The Panthers have won six of their last seven games at home this season improving Chapman to a 7-3 record at Hart Park.

The Chapman University baseball team defeated George Fox (Ore.) 4-1 in the first of a four-game series at Hart Park on Friday afternoon. Junior RHP Matt Smith tossed a complete game with a career-high 10 strikeouts, allowing just one run while improving his record to 5-1 this season.

Wiehe delivers walk-off single as Panthers top No. 6 Kean

Chapman University junior IF John Wiehe hit a walk-off RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Panthers a 7-6 win over visiting No. 6 Kean University (N.J.) on Tuesday night at Hart Park. The win was Chapman’s third in a row over the perennial top-10 team and sixth in their past seven meetings, including two wins at the Division III national championships in 2011 and 2009.
