Cheli's opening weekend ends with SCIAC weekly honor

ORANGE, Calif. – Junior Mack Cheli was locked in to start the 2020 season and earned the first SCIAC Hitter of the Week award. Cheli started the season on a four-game hitting streak, hitting .615.

Cheli was 8-for-13 to start the season with multiple hits in three of the Panthers' four games. He smashed a solo homer and a pair of doubles while driving in eight RBIs. He also walked four times for a .684 on-base percentage to go along with his 1.000 slugging percentage.

He sparked a game-tying rally for the Panthers in the fifth against Linfield, hitting a run-scoring double for Chapman's first run and later scoring the tying run on a single. Whitman walked him three times but he also managed to hit the go-ahead double in the fifth for a 5-3 lead.

The defending national champions take their 2020 undefeated record back out on the road for a three-game series at East Texas Baptist this weekend.
