Garcia, Zeisler repeat SCIAC awards sweep

ORANGE, Calif. – For the second week in a row, juniors Nick Garcia and Henry Zeisler have swept the SCIAC Athlete of the Week awards for baseball. The Panthers took two-of-three from La Verne in the first SCIAC series of the season.

Zeisler continued on his early season tear that has his batting average at .514 through the first 10 games. In three games last week, Zeisler hit .417 with two more homers and four more RBIs. Both of his home runs came as game-tying blasts at La Verne on Saturday. He tied the first game of the doubleheader 1-1 with a solo homer and sent a three-run blast over the wall in the second game to even the game at 5-5.

Zeisler has a hit in nine of Chapman's 10 games this year and has multiple hits in eight games. He has already smashed five home runs and knocked in 16 RBIs this season.

Garcia turned in another gem as he improved to 3-0 on the season on the mound. The righty shut down La Verne's offense for six innings. He struck out five and allowed just two hits, including a bouncing infield hit. He allowed only three hits to leave the infield through six innings and sat down the first 11 batters he faced.

He has yet to allow an earned run this season while racking up 22 strikeouts against just four walks.

The Panthers take on undefeated Cal Lutheran in a three-game series this weekend. The teams open the series at Cal Lutheran on Friday and finish with a doubleheader at Hart Park on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m.
