Foard ends senior season with Academic All-American honors

ORANGE, Calif. – A career that started with a national championship ended with another prestigious honor as Chapman University baseball senior Cooper Foard was selected to the College Sports Information Directors Association's Academic All-America Third Team.

Foard helped the Panthers to a national title in 2019 and has since earned two All-SCIAC awards and was named to the All-Region team in 2022. He hit 12 home runs this season – the most in a decade at Chapman – while hitting .317 with 48 RBIs. He was a .321 lifetime hitter with 16 career home runs, 21 doubles, three triples, 77 RBIs and 74 runs scored.

With Foard earning the distinction of Academic All-America, he joins an elite club of Chapman student-athletes to earn the award. He is just the 35th selection from Chapman since 1983 and the ninth selection in Chapman baseball history. He is the first Chapman baseball catcher to earn the honor.

A leader on the stat sheet and in the clubhouse, Foard was equally as successful in the classroom as he was on the diamond. The catcher from San Francisco, Calif. and St. Francis High School owns a 3.54 GPA as a double major in Advertising and Political Science.

As a member of Chapman baseball, Foard and his fellow seniors finished all three seasons (COVID-19 forced the cancellation of the 2020 season) in first place in the SCIAC standings. The Panthers made the NCAA Championship field all three years and advanced to the Super Regionals twice.

In 2019, Foard scored the game-winning and series-clinching run in the bottom of the ninth to advance past Whitman in the Regionals and Concordia (TX) in the Super Regionals. His first inning homer against Pomona-Pitzer in the final game of the 2022 Regional helped propel the Panthers into the Super Regionals.
