The Chapman University baseball team will return to McMinnville, Oregon this week in search of an improbable sixth consecutive regional title. The Panthers have been selected to the NCAA Division III baseball championships and will face Trinity University (Texas) in the first round opener at noon on Wednesday.

Sophomore LB Erick Mueller made the defensive play of the day and the Chapman University football team preserved a three-point lead and defeated a late-charging University of La Verne squad 17-14 at Ortmayer Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Following a quarterback sack from Mueller with 1:45 left in the game a play that pushed La Verne back 10 yards - the Leopards 43-yard field goal attempt to tie the game missed short and Chapman held on for its fourth victory to close out the season.
Adranly selected to Academic All-District football team

Chapman University sophomore football player Jimmy Adranly has been named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District VIII football team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). This is the first Academic All-District selection for Adranly who majors in business with a minor in coaching and carries a 3.52 grade-point average.
Late rally comes up short as Chapman falls to Redlands

A fourth-quarter rally by the Chapman University football team came up one onside kick short as visiting University of Redlands held on to defeat the host Panthers 27-24 at Ernie Chapman Stadium on Saturday night. Trailing 27-10 late in the fourth quarter, Chapman scored two touchdowns 1:17 apart thanks to one successful onside kick. However, a second onside kick traveled out of bounds and the Bulldogs were able to run out the final 1:15 off the clock to secure the victory.
Panthers treat themselves to Halloween victory

On Halloween night, unlucky 13 proved to just enough for the Chapman University football team, which defeated visiting Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges 13-9 at Ernie Chapman Stadium on Saturday night. The Panthers actually created some of their own luck, capitalizing on four Claremont turnovers and a missed field goal to thwart several Stags drives.
Cal Lutheran hands Chapman its third straight defeat

The visiting Cal Lutheran University football team turned a four-point halftime lead into a 36-point victory with a big second half, defeating host Chapman University 49-13 at Ernie Chapman Stadium on Saturday night. The Kingsmen had little trouble moving the chains in the second half, totaling 315 yards of offense and scoring five touchdowns over the final 30 minutes.

Although Occidental College has won five in a row in its series against Chapman University, one thing is certain: Chapman has earned the respect of the perennial top-25-ranked Tigers. This after a third consecutive game decided by a touchdown or less between the two teams as host Occidental defeated Chapman 20-14 at Patterson Field on Saturday night.
Poets run over Panthers 21-6 on homecoming

In front of a record crowd of 4,496 at Ernie Chapman Stadium on Saturday night for homecoming, the Chapman University football team allowed 285 yards rushing to Whittier College as the Poets ran away with a 21-6 victory. Saturdays loss marked the first time that the Panthers have dropped a homecoming game since 2004 when Pacific Lutheran University defeated Chapman 17-3.

The offense has yet to get on track in the 2009 season for the Chapman University football team, and the struggles continued on Saturday afternoon against Whitworth University as the Panthers committed four turnovers and totaled just 148 total yards in a 23-8 loss at the Pine Bowl in Spokane.

A casual glance at the box score and you might think there was a typo in the final, but its correct: Chapman University 21, Menlo College 7. Thats because despite most of the offensive numbers favoring the visiting Oaks, the Panthers claimed a rather convincing victory in their season opener at Wilson Field on Saturday night defeating the Oaks for the third consecutive year.

For the third straight year, Chapman University Athletics will partner with the schools on-campus radio station, Chapman Radio, to broadcast the Panthers football games in 2009 streaming live on the internet at www.chapmanradio.com. Chapman Radio has announced it will broadcast eight regular season games home and away beginning with the Panthers home and season opener this Saturday against Menlo College at 7 p.m.
