Football pair earns Academic All-District selections

ORANGE, Calif. – A pair of Chapman University football players have been named to the Capital One Academic All-District VIII team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Senior P Jimmy Adranly and junior LB Michael Mehlhaff were among the 25 Division III honorees.

For Adranly, it is his second Academic All-District selection, last earning the award in 2009. The senior is currently averaging 41.9 yards per punt – which would rank No. 6 in Division III, however he does not have enough punts this season to qualify for the national rankings. Adranly will need five punts on Saturday to qualify for a third straight season. He ranked in the top-10 in Division III in punting each of the previous two years.

Two weeks ago, Adranly was named SCIAC Player of the Week when he tied a school record with a 69-yard punt against La Verne. He currently has a 3.31 grade-point average as a business major and is also the starting goalkeeper on Chapman's NCAA playoff bound soccer team.

The honor is the first for Mehlhaff who has emerged this season as Chapman's top defensive player in terms of tackles. The junior leads the Panthers with 64 total tackles, including 33 solo tackles. He also has a team-high four quarterback sacks and is second on the team in tackles for loss (6) and QB hurries (3). He was named to the D3Football.com Team of the Week in October after he made 10 tackles and returned a blocked punt for a touchdown against Whittier. The business major has a 3.93 grade-point average.

The Capital One Academic All-America program honors male and female student-athletes in 12 sports annually. To be eligible, students must be varsity starters or key reserves, maintain a grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.00 scale, and hold at least a sophomore standing. Chapman is a member of District VIII, which includes Division III schools from throughout the Western United States.
