Chapman football heads back to Linfield to open 2015

Complete game Notes and rosters

Chapman (0-0) at Linfield (0-0)
Saturday, September 12, 2015
Maxwell Field
12:30 p.m.

GAME NOTES:

WE MEET AGAIN

• Chapman and Linfield are meeting for the third time in the last 364 days. Of Chapman's last 11 games, three have been against the Wildcats.

• Linfield has held the advantage in both meetings last year, sneaking out a 21-14 win in week one's matchup in Orange and winning 55-24 in the first round of the NCAA Championship in McMinnville.

CHAVEZ BACK UNDER CENTER

Andrew Chavez returns to the quarterback position when Chapman takes the field on Sept. 12. Chavez takes over for two-time SCIAC Offensive Player of the Year Michael Lahey.

• Chavez may not have seen the field much in the last two years but does bring some experience into the huddle. He did play six games as a freshmen in 2012 before missing all of 2013 with an injury.

• In 2012, Chavez threw for 690 yards and six touchdowns while completing 57 percent of his passes.

MCKIBBINS ON RECORD WATCH

• Senior running back Jeremiah McKibbins has already surpassed some Chapman records and is eyeing more. He is just 170 yards away from setting the school's all-time rushing record and will claim the rushing touchdown record for himself then next time he finds the end zone.

EXPERIENCED ON DEFENSE

• Nine upperclassmen will lead the Chapman defense onto the field at Linfield. The Panthers have five juniors and four seniors at the top of the defensive depth chart. They are joined by two freshmen in the secondary.

• Last year's defense forced two Linfield turnovers and limited the Wildcats to just seven points in the first half of the regular season matchup. Chapman also allowed just 21 points - the lowest total for Linfield in the regular season.

SPEAKING OF TURNOVERS

• Chapman forced 19 turnovers last year with 10 INTs and nine fumble recoveries while only turning the ball over nine times. Their +1 per game turnover margin ranked 23rd in Division III.
