Panthers begin SCIAC title defense with Homecoming game

TEAM STATISTICS COMPARISONS

TITLE DEFENSE BEGINS

• For the first time in school history Chapman starts the SCIAC season as the defending champions. The Panthers will look to push aside their 0-2 start as their defense of the conference crown begins this week.
• Both teams jump into SCIAC play for the first time this season on Saturday. Chapman is 18-3 since joining the conference in 2012, posting records of 5-2 (2012), 6-1 (2013) and 7-0 (2014). The Panthers have won each of their last nine SCIAC games.
• Claremont is 6-15 over that same span but have been trending up, going from 0-7 in 2012 to 4-3 last year.

WEINSTEIN MAKES CHAPMAN HISTORY

• Junior Ethan Weinstein made Chapman history last week as his five kickoff returns totaled 215 yards, shattering the previous record of 171 yards.
• His 87-yard TD return was the eighth kick return for a touchdown in Chapman history. He had three returns of 40-plus yards and averaged 43 yards per return in the game. He is averaging 39 yards per return this season
.• Weinstein's 215 kick return yards are the second-most in a single game in Division III this season.

COACH O GOES FOR 5-0

• In his 10th season at Chapman, head coach Bob Owens is going for his 50th win. The 2014 SCIAC Coach of the Year will be the first coach in Chapman's history to reach 50 wins with the Panthers next victory. 
• He is 49-35 since taking over the program in 2006, tying previous coach Ken Visser for the most in Chapman history.

MCKIBBINS CHASING HISTORY

• Senior RB Jeremiah McKibbins is expected to return to the field this week and is only 110 yards away from breaking Chapman's all-time rushing record.
• After a 62-yard game to open the season at Linfield, McKibbins has rushed for 2,226 yards in his career. The current school record is at 2,333 yards. He missed Chapman's home-opener with an injury.
• McKibbins also added another record against Linfield with his 28th career rushing TD on Chapman's first drive of the game. Previously, he was tied for the school record with 27.
