Football continues SCIAC schedule at Whittier

• The Chapman University Panthers (1-2) are facing off against the Whittier Poets (0-3). Both teams are coming off their first loss in SCIAC play, with Chapman losing to Pomona-Pitzer 35-7 and Whittier losing to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 45-13. 

• Chapman's Jacob Isabel has scored a touchdown in each of his first three games as a Panther. Isabel has recorded 420 all-purpose yards, averaging 140 per game. He ranks fourth in the conference and 70th in the nation in all-purpose yards.

• The Panther's Joe Mudie has proven to be a versatile threat out of the backfield. In three games this season, Mudie has one game with over 100 receiving yards and another with over 100 rushing yards.

• Senior Devin Ray is averaging eight tackles per game over the first three contests for Chapman. He ranks sixth in the SCIAC. His 7.3 solo tackles per game are tops in the conference and rank 16th in all of Division III.

• Whittier's Matthew Valencia threw two touchdowns in their second game against Austin College. The sophomore quarterback also threw for one touchdown in their first SCIAC match against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps last weekend.

• Chapman is 19-3 all-time against Whittier and has won the last six contests with the Poets, dating back to before the Panthers joined the SCIAC. The two teams have lit up the scoreboard over the last five year, averaging 81 points per game combined. Chapman has scored nearly 55 of those 81 points on average.
