Bautista named SCIAC Athlete of the Week for second time in three weeks

ORANGE, Calif. - Senior Ricky Bautista proved to be the anchor in Chapman's offense yet again, earning SCIAC Athlete of the Week honors for the second time in just three weeks. The Panthers took down Cal Lutheran 46-38 at Wilson Field this week and earned at least a share of the SCIAC Championship title with the victory.

The quarterback completed 22-for-28 passing, recording his fifth consecutive game where he completed at least 70 percent of his passes. He threw for six touchdowns, tying the Chapman record for number of touchdowns in a single game that he set last year against Occidental.

The Irvine, Calif. native threw for 309 yards, recording his fourth 300-plus game of the season and fifth of his career. With a passing efficiency rating of 190.3, Bautista ranks third in the nation and is on pace to hold the single-season Chapman record in the category set by Michael Lahey in 2013.

Despite throwing two early touchdowns and completing 6-for-10 passing in the first quarter, the senior managed to throw for a season-high 78.6 percent. He completed 15 consecutive passes from early in the second quarter to early in the fourth, throwing 16-for-18 in the final three quarters of the game.

With his six touchdowns against the Kingsmen, Bautista runs his total up to 22 touchdowns, breaking the single-season record set in 1999 by Stanley Villanueva and ranking tied for first in the SCIAC with Cal Lutheran quarterback Adam Friederichsen.
