After a year away, former Panther quarterback Michael Lahey returned to the Chapman football program as an assistant coach in 2016. Lahey was a two-year starter for the Panthers and led the team to its first-ever SCIAC title in 2014.

Lahey was a two-time SCIAC Offensive Player of the Year in 2013 and 2014 and led the Panthers to a 16-3 record in his two years as the starting quarterback. The Panthers' record-holder in passing efficiency and completion percentage led all of Division III in completion percentage in 2013. He was named Chapman's Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2014.

Lahey graduated with a bachelor's degree in business in 2015 and works as a logistics consultant in Orange County.
