Men's Basketball defeat Bears in overtime to continue hot streak

ORANGE, Calif. –The Chapman University men's basketball team continued its nine-game winning streak after defeating St. Joseph's College (N.Y.) 75-68 in overtime on Tuesday at the Hutton Sports Center.

The Panthers beat their 8-0 record start from the 2009-10 season with Tuesday's win and stretched their regular season win streak to 14, dating back to last season.

Chapman jumped out over the Bears in overtime with an 8-0 run to take the lead 67 to 59 at the 3:54 mark. St. Joseph's battled back but never regained a lead falling to the Panthers 75-68 with less than a minute left to play.  

St. Joseph's, now 8-4, took the first lead of the game 9-5 at the 13:50 mark but the Panthers would finish the first half on top leading 27-23 with 1:16 left in the first period. The Panther offense was led by senior G Colin Zavrsnick who recorded a double-double with a game-high of 22 points, including six three-pointers, and ten rebounds in 40 minutes of play.

The Panthers traded lead with the Bears 11 times in the second half. Senior C John Joyce had a team-high of 11 rebounds and nine points while senior G Garrett James posted double-digits and recorded a team-high of seven assists.

The Panthers now 9-0 look to continue on their record-breaking winning streak as they enter SCIAC play starting on Saturday, Jan. 3 at 7 p.m. at Whittier College.
