Men's basketball falls to LIFE Pacific

ORANGE, Calif. – Sophomore Cam Haslam scored 18 points but the Chapman University men's basketball team fell 74-63 to visiting LIFE Pacific on Tuesday. Three Panthers scored in double digits as Chapman dropped to 2-4 on the season.

The two teams traded the lead three times over the first four minutes but the NCCAA's ninth-ranked team caught fire as the Warriors went on an 11-2 run to pull away early in the first half. Mark Eden fueled the charge for LPC, scoring 19 of his 28 points in the first half.

The deficit reached 15 points late in the first half but back-to-back threes from Haslam and sophomore Reed Nakakihara chopped the lead down to nine. Senior James Griffin's layup with just 13 seconds left put the Panthers down 41-31 at halftime.

Chapman fought back in the second half and went on an early 8-0 run to get within five. Junior James Taylor fueled the run with eight of his 12 points coming in the first 4:11 of the second half. The Warriors did not let the Panthers come any closer as they responded each time Chapman looked to be making a run.

Eden was joined by three teammates in double digits to lead a hot-shooting LIFE Pacific team. The Warriors shot 60 percent in the first half, including a 7-for-8 half from beyond the arc. The hit just 2-of-7 three-pointers in the second half but shot 52 percent in the game to stay out in front. Trent Rowser put up a 10-point, 11-rebound double-double to help in the win.

Chapman shot 42.6 percent from the floor and 31.8 percent from three-point range. Nakakihara scored all 12 of his points in the first half and had four assists and three steals in the game. Haslam's 18 points led the Panthers while Taylor pitched in 12 points and six rebounds.

Chapman heads to La Sierra for its next game on Friday at 2 p.m. and returns home on Dec. 16 for a 7 p.m. game with West Coast Baptist.
