Wise leads Panthers to ninth place finish at CA State Tourney

HEMET, Calif. – The Chapman University men's golf team finished ninth at the CA State Intercollegiate tournament which wrapped up on Tuesday at Diamond Valley Golf Club hosted by University of La Verne. The Panthers posted a three-round score of 917, finishing back of tournament winner Cal State San Marcos and 50 shots behind second-place SCIAC-rival Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

Sophomore Bryan Wise tied for 28th, shooting 226 on the three-day tournament, 10-over par. He started strong shooting one-above-par during the first round of the tournament, then followed with a 76 on day two, and finished with a 77 in the final round.

Despite a first round of 85, freshman Chuck Pedone turned his game around, becoming Chapman's best golfer over the final two rounds of the tournament. Pedone shot even par 72 on day three of the tournament, Chapman's low score for the event. The rookie's comeback solidified his spot in the top-40, with an overall score of 230.

Senior Kent Paisley's consistent shooting of 76, 77, and 75 allowed him to finish in a six-way tie for 31st with competitors from La Verne, Occidental and Cal Lutheran shooting a total of 228.

The Panthers placed ahead of Occidental for the second time this season, but fell short to SCIAC rivals Cal Lutheran who finished seventh and La Verne who finished fifth.
