Men's golf defeats Hope International by five strokes

TUSTIN, Calif. – Behind a season-low round score of 69 (3-under par) from sophomore Bryan Wise, the Chapman University men's golf team earned its first dual match win of the spring, defeating visiting Hope International University 298-303 at Tustin Ranch Golf Course on Friday. Wise's score was the difference in the match as he bested the Royals' Justin Cosca, who placed second overall with an overall score of 73 (1-over par).

Four players tied for third place, shooting 76 (4-over par), including Chapman seniors Giovanni Chiappano and Steven Meyer. Another senior, Kent Paisley, shot a 5-over 77 to round out the Panthers' top-four scorers.

Wise's 69 was his second-lowest stroke total in his career and matched his career-best at 3-under par. He has now shot Chapman's low-round in every event this spring and, coupled with last week's 73 (1-over) against Cal Lutheran at Tustin Ranch, has lowered his season averages to a team-leading 76.1 (4.1 over par).

Chiappano also lowered his season averages for the second straight match and is currently at 77.3 (5.3 over par) this year.

Chapman will travel to the West Cup Tournament beginning on Sunday through Tuesday, March 22-24, being held at Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon.
