Men's golf drops its first dual match of the year

SEAL BEACH, Calif. – Pick your cliché, but it was no day at the beach nor day at the ranch for the Chapman University men's golf team on Tuesday as the Panthers dropped their final non-conference dual match to host Hope International University 307-314 at Old Ranch Country Club in Seal Beach. Just three weeks after edging the Royals by five strokes at Tustin Ranch, Chapman lost its first match of the season by seven.

Sophomore Chuck Pedone had one of his best rounds of the season to lead Chapman (2-1 overall) with a 1-over par 73 and tied for the match-low score on Tuesday. It marked the third time this season Pedone has earned the low round for the Panthers, all three times at either 1-over or even-par.

Junior Nickolas Gates came in fourth place overall and was Chapman's second-lowest score with a 6-over 78, getting back under 80 after three consecutive rounds over. Sophomore Bryan Wise (+9) and senior Kent Paisley (+10) rounded out the scoring for the Panthers.

Chapman will be at Los Serranos Country Club for SCIAC Tournament #2 this Saturday and Sunday in its final tune up before the SCIAC Championships April 26-28 at Oak Valley Golf Club.
