Men's golf takes third at SCIAC #2, Wise takes second

ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Chapman University men's golf team had its highest-ever finish in a SCIAC event with a third-place team finish in SCIAC #2. Senior Bryan Wise led the Panthers' historic charge with a second-place finish individually.

The Panthers posted the third-best team score in school history with a 36-hole score of 604 (+28). Chapman carded an 18-over 306 to start the tournament off in third place. As most of the field improved on day two, the Panthers did as well. They shaved off eight strokes to stay in third with a 298 (+10).

Wise led the Panthers and finished just one shot behind the medalist at one-over par. Wise's 145 is the second-lowest 36-hole tournament score in school history and the best score of his career. He carded a two-over 74 on day one but shot his sixth round of par or better this year on day two to climb the leaderboard. He was one-under par with a 71 in the second round. Redlands' Dylan Merchant shot an even 144 to claim the medalist honors.

Sophomores Dallas Haun and Griffin Tso finished within one stroke of each other to take 14th and 15th, respectively. Haun was eight-over par for the tournament with a 152. He shot a 78 on day one but was just two-over par with a 74 on day two. Tso carded a 153 (+9) for the tournament. He improved by a stroke from day one to day two.

Senior Chuck Pedone shot a five-over 77 on day while freshman Brent Bjorndahl and sophomore Zach Gellens duplicated the effort on day two to close out the team scoring. Gellens improved from a nine-over 81 on the first day to finish 29th overall. Pedone finished the tournament with a 160 (+16) to take 35th and Bjorndahl improved by seven strokes in the second round but took 36th individually.

The Panthers are back on the course to finish up the regular season April 23-25 for the SCIAC Championship at Los Serranos Country Club.
