Men's golf takes fifth at SCIAC Championships, Tso in top-10

PASADENA, Calif. – Senior Griffin Tso jumped up to eighth and the Chapman University men's golf team finished fifth at the SCIAC Championships. The Panthers missed out on fourth place on the team leaderboard by a stroke.

Chapman was one of just three team to go under a 300 on the final day. The Panthers shot a 299 (+11) to finish the tournament with a 900 (+44). Occidental shot a 301 (+13) to just stay in front of the Panthers four fourth place with a three-round total of 899 (+43). La Verne claimed the team title by a stroke over Clarement-Mudd-Scripps and just three strokes over Redlands.

The Panthers finished strong with four players all staying under a 77. Tso shot a three-over 75 to climb one spot on the leaderboard to eighth place to lead the Panthers. He finished the tournament nine-over par with a 223. Sophomore Avery Keating was just a stroke back of Tso in 11th place. He fired off his best round with a two-over 74 in the final round to finish 10-over for the tournament.

Junior Ricky Hoefert had an up and down weekend but rebounded from yesterday's round with a two-over 74 to finish the tournament. He finished in a tie for 12th with a 225 (+12). Sophomore Brody Hval birdied four holes in the third round and carded a four-over 76 to take 29th place with a 232 (+19).

Junior Sian Rogers had a memorable tournament with a hole in one in the first round but finished 36th overall with a 239 (+26). Senior Zach Gellens carded a 251 (+38) in his final tournament to finish 41st.

The Panthers season comes to a close with a fifth-place finish in the SCIAC Championships. With a 13-stroke lead over Cal Lutheran in the championship tournament, the Panthers beat out the Kingsmen for fifth place in the SCIAC standings.
