Spring season begins Saturday for men's golf

ORANGE, Calif. – An experienced men's golf team heads into the 2020 spring season loaded with talent and potential. Four of the seven members of the Chapman University men's golf team are upperclassmen with plenty of experience on the course.

Juniors Avery Keating and Brody Hval have already entered the Chapman record book through the first half of their careers. Both have tied the school record with low rounds of 67. Both have finished two-round tournaments with a 140 – another low at Chapman.

Keating averaged just over 75 strokes per round last year and earned a spot on the All-SCIAC Second Team. He is poised to have another solid year after finishing a fall tournament at par and shooting even with or below par in three of his six rounds this fall.

Senior Ricky Hoefert is a third Panther to come into the season with the proven ability to shoot a sub-70 on any given round. He led the Panthers at the OUAZ Fall Invite, tying his career-low with a three-under 69 in the first round. Another senior Sian Rogers hit a hole-in-one during last year's SCIAC Championships to help the Panthers to a fifth-place finish.

Two freshmen joined the team in the fall with a third, Bradley Lu, joining in the spring. Will Ellegard made the Panthers lineup in both fall tournaments and was under par in his first collegiate round.

Chapman officially opens the season on Saturday in a quad match of SCIAC teams. The teams meet at Tukwet Canyon Golf Course on Saturday and reconvene on Sunday at Tustin Ranch.
