Men's soccer routs Cal Lutheran after second half outburst

ORANGE, Calif. – All of a sudden everything started clicking for the Chapman University men's soccer team. After a scoreless first half, the Panthers (7-5-3, 6-4-1 SCIAC) poured on seven second half goals in a 7-0 rout of Cal Lutheran on Monday.

Junior Marco Saglimbeni and senior Boston Kimmel each netted two goals and assisted on two more. They both assisted on sophomore Elliot Braund's goal and junior Daniel Malikyar added two late goals. With Chapman pushing forward most of the night, the Panthers outshot the Kingsmen (2-10-2, 2-8-2 SCIAC) 28-5 in the match.

Saglimbeni first lit up the scoreboard just under two minutes into the second half and the deluge followed. Kimmel tapped the ball back and Saglimbeni fired from distance, grazing the underside of the crossbar as it deflected into the net.

The Panthers opened up the match in the 53rd minute and went on to score three goals in less than two minutes. Kimmel struck first at 52:42 and assisted with Saglimbeni on Braund's goal just sixty four seconds later. At 55:36, Saglimbeni found the back of the net again but this time on a beautiful cross from sophomore Zev Gollis.

In the 68th minute, Kimmel dribbled behind the defense for his second score and the rout was on. Malikyar scored his two late goals with junior Cole Peters assisting on the first and freshman Javier Bernaldo assisting on the second.

With the two goals, Saglimbeni increased his team-leading total to eight on the season. Kimmel has netted five goals and leads the conference with six assists.

The Panthers return to Wilson Field on Saturday when they host Caltech at 7 p.m.
