La Verne defeats Chapman in SCIAC Semifinals

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's soccer team fell 1-0 to the No. 3-seeded University of La Verne in the SCIAC Tournament Semifinals at Wilson Field on Wednesday evening.

La Verne's Alfredo Garcia crossed to Nathan Gonzalez who reached the back of the net on a sliding finish to give the Leopards the 1-0 victory at the 74 minute mark.

The Panthers almost scored on a header by sophomore Grant Fremmerlid off of a cross from junior Ryan Godinez but a diving save by La Verne's Josh Ramirez kept the Leopards and Chapman tied 0-0 at the end of the first half.

The Panthers outshot La Verne 4-2 and dominated possession of the ball majority of the match. Senior captain Boston Kimmel led Chapman with three shots on the night.

Chapman (12-6-3 overall, 11-4-1 SCIAC) concluded its regular season tied for second in conference.

La Verne will face the winner of a match between No. 1 Redlands and No. 4 Occidental on Saturday in the SCIAC Championship. Kickoff between the Bulldogs and Tigers is set for 7 p.m. on Wednesday night.
