Saglimbeni honored as CoSIDA Academic All-American

ORANGE, Calif. – Chapman University junior captain Marco Saglimbeni accomplished a program first with his selection to the College Sports Information Directors of America's Academic All-America Second Team. Saglimbeni previously earned Academic All-District First Team honors in October.

Head coach Eddie Carrillo characterizes his star midfielder, "Marco truly epitomizes the term student-athlete. His dedication to his academics is as relentless as his pursuit of excellence on the athletic field."

The midfielder from San Jose is the first men's soccer player in Chapman history to earn the prestigious award from CoSIDA. He is the 20th student-athlete in Chapman history to win the honors and the first since Kim Takaoka earned the recognition following the 2013-14 season.

Saglimbeni led the Panthers with nine goals this year to go along with his career-high of five assists. He earned All-SCIAC First Team honors for the second year in a row. His 22 points and nine goals this season both ranked third in the SCIAC. Over the past two seasons, he has been an on-field leader with 20 goals and seven assists.

His accomplishment do not begin and end on the pitch as the biological sciences major and Italian studies minor carries a 3.93 cumulative GPA. He was a SCIAC All-Academic selection in 2014. Saglimbeni is part of the Honors Program at Chapman and earned a spot on the Chancellor's list last year.

CoSIDA began the distinguished Academic All-America® program in the 1950's, and since then, has honored thousands of deserving student-athletes from numerous sports and across all divisions with these elite  Academic All-America® scholar-athlete honors. Currently, CoSIDA honors Academic All-Americas in 12 sports.

For the fifth year in a row, the Academic All-America® program is comprised of four divisional teams, with student-athletes being honored separately in Division I, Division II and Division III. A fourth team - the College Division team - is comprised of NAIA, Canadian and two-year student-athletes. (Formerly, there were two teams - University Division (D1) and a College Division (all others).
