Braund nets a pair to lead Panthers to first SCIAC win

ORANGE, Calif. – Junior Elliott Braund netted a pair of goals to lead the Chapman University men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Occidental College at Wilson Field on Saturday night. The win was the Panthers first SCIAC win of the season and their third consecutive home victory.

Braund netted the first goal of the game 32 minutes into the first half off a deflected shot taken by senior Ryan Godinez. The Panthers held the lead 1-0 through the rest of the first half and then built on that in the second.

With just twenty minutes left in the game, senior Lorenzo Belassen broke away down the left side, juked the ball past two defenders to launch the ball up to freshman Justo Garcia. Belassen picked up the deflected ball and passed back to Braund who seized another opportunity to score the Panthers second goal of the game and lift Chapman to a 2-0 lead.

It wasn't until the 80 minute mark that freshman Ryan Wilson headed a ball into the net for the Tigers off a cross from the outside by freshman Ben Simon to prevent the shutout to tighten the score 2-1.

Junior GK Sean Augustine recorded his third win of the season, while adding three saves in goal.

The Panthers travel to Cal Lutheran for their next match on Monday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. Chapman will then return home to host Whittier on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 4 p.m.
