• For the first time in program history University of Texas Dallas and Chapman University meet up for a battle in the NCAA Division III Tournament first round in San Antonio, Texas. The winner will move on to the second round to play the winner of the Trinity-Whitworth match on Sunday.
• Chapman is making its first tournament appearance since 2011 and the sixth in head coachEddie Carillo's 20-year tenure. Carrillo is 1-5 in the NCAA tournament earning the program's win back in in 1998.
• On the other side of the bracket, No. 3 and SCAC champion Trinity faces NWC champion Whitworth. Both bring a wealth of tournament experience to the pitch with Trinity making its 15th consecutive NCAA appearance and Whitworth making its third in a row and seventh in the last 10 years.
• The Panthers had five players selected to the All-SCIAC teams with senior Marco Saglimbeni earning his third First Team selection. Junior Elliott Braund also earned a spot on the First Team while Connor Tobia, Sean Augustine and Sam Rudich all took Second Team nods.
• Chapman has proven that traveling offers little problem for them as they have improved to 6-3-1 on the road. UT Dallas is 6-4-1 this season during travel, proving the road isn't too challenging for them either. For both teams this is their first neutral game site of the season.
• UT Dallas defeated Hardin Simmons 2-0 on Saturday afternoon to claim its second straight and fourth overall ASC championship. The win solidified the Comets third straight trip to the national tournament.
• The Comets are 1-4 all-time in the NCAA D-III Tournament, with their lone win coming at home in 2014, a 2-0 victory over Pomona-Pitzer.
• The UTD offense is led by Alfredo Kaegi who ranks in the top-50 of leading scorers across DIII with 13 goals this season. Kaegi and Danny Myer rank 57th in the nation with 4 game-winning goals apiece.
• Junior Elliott Braund is also tied with Myer and Kaegi with 4 game-winners this season as well. Braund, who has seven goals this season, follows right behind the Panthers three-year leading scorer Marco Saglimbeni who has eight goals.
• A critical part of the match up with be the Comets defense and the Panther offense. Chapman ranks 44th overall with 48 goals this season. The Panthers have a wealth of players attacking with goals coming from the 14 different players, including five players with five goals apiece. The Comets defense is led by Joseph Weber who ranks in the top-50 as a leading goaltender, allowing less than a goal per game this season. Weber has notched five shutouts and 55 saves in 17 games played.
• Senior Jake Sarmiento has been a big offensive boost for the Panthers lately. He has scored four of his six goals in the last six matches, scoring twice in the Panthers big win over Redlands in October.
• Chapman seems to be playing its best soccer over the last month of the season. The Panthers are 7-2 in their last nine matches, outscoring their opponents 24-8 with three shutouts. Augustine has a 0.91 GAA in the last month.
