Wilson nets lone goal in men’s soccer victory

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman men's soccer team earned a crucial conference victory over the visiting Caltech Beavers earlier this evening. Senior Max Wilson gave the Panthers a leg up, scoring the lone goal of the match.

The two sides played a scoreless 84 minutes before Wilson found the back of the net. With less than six minutes left on the clock, the veteran dribbled across the top of the box, setting himself up to slot the ball near post, just past the outstretched hands of Caltech goalkeeper Joe Como.

Como helped keep the Beavers in the match, tallying six saves, including two point-blank shots from senior Kai Howe. The Panthers took a total of 18 shots in the match, hitting the frame just seven times.

Caltech took eight shots of their own, forcing freshman goalkeeper Jaxson Thornton to make one save.

Juniors Jarod Matteoni and Patrick Quinn continue to anchor the back line for Chapman, playing the full 90 minutes while helping the Panthers to their third shutout of the season.

Chapman is in a must-win situation as they are tied for fourth place in the SCIAC with Pomona-Pitzer. The Panthers return to Wilson Field on Wednesday, Oct. 24 to host La Verne at 4pm before heading to Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday, Oct. 27.
