Men's soccer suffers 2-0 loss to La Verne

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's soccer team fell 2-0 to visiting La Verne on Saturday in a SCIAC match. The Panthers generate several chances with 13 shots but were unable to find the back of the net.

The Panthers put four of their six shots in the first half on goal but Kevan Rehmani was there to turn away every opportunity. After only putting one shot on goal in the first half hour, the  Leopards broke through.

A cross into the back post was chipped back across the six-yard box to Cesar Rodriguez, who finished back across the box for the lead. In the 60th minute, the Jovanni Garcia took advantage of a 1-on-1 with the keeper for a 2-0 lead after the ball was given away in the back.

Freshman Jason Reed made five saves in the match. The Panthers outshot the Leopards 13-9 and won five corners compared to three for La Verne. Sophomore Tobi Howe fired off six shots and put three on goal.

The Panthers furiously pushed forward in the final ten minutes but the Leopards cleared away several scrums in front of the net to maintain the shutout.

The Panthers play the next two matches on the road, beginning Wednesday at Cal Lutheran, before finishing the 2019 schedule with six of their last eight matches at home.
