Busby's last minute goal punches men's soccer's ticket to NCAA Tournament

ORANGE, Calif — In a game that surely looked like it would head into PKs notched at a scoreless tie, it was only fitting that a defenseman tallied the game winner for the Panthers in their 1-0 SCIAC Championship victory over the Occidental Tigers.

It was the 109th minute and the Panthers controlled the ball in their offensive half. A beautiful touch from Garret Lindfelt gave Jackson Busby time to set up an unbelievable bicycle kick score for the win. Busby's goal helped him earn tournament MVP honors.

This victory marked the first time the Panthers have clinched a SCIAC title while on their home turf, and only the fourth time in ten years the one seed has won the tournament.

The game was a bloodbath, with 46 fouls and seven yellow cards combined. Occidental fired off 13 shots and five on goal, to Chapman's 11 and four. Chandler Siemonsma had another great playoff game saving all five of those on-goal attempts.

His final save came with 10 seconds remaining on a laser directly at his chest.

Key plays throughout the game, Isaac Tamer made a clutch tackle in a one-on-one situation where it was just him and the forward streaking towards the goal. Busby, Matthew Urata-Espinosa and Jake Williams did a great job all game keeping balls out of the box and leaving the Tigers with few good looks.

With the victory, Chapman is the 2022 SCIAC Champions. They earned a bid to the NCAA tournament with the win. The bracket for the NCAA Championship will be revealed on Monday at 10:30 a.m. in a selection show that will air on NCAA.com.
