Men's, women's tennis teams earn ITA academic honors

Both Chapman University men’s and women’s tennis programs have earned the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Academic Team Award for the 2014-15 season, as announced by the ITA in July. Along with the team honors, seven Panthers (four men, three women) earned ITA Scholar-Athlete honors for the year.

Forty three Chapman University spring sports student-athletes have been recognized for their achievement in the classroom by the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference which named its All-Academic teams by sport on this month. Leading the way for the Panthers was women’s track and field with 10 athletes honored.

Thompson earns SCIAC Newcomer of the Year award

Chapman University men’s tennis freshman Justin P. Thompson has been named SCIAC Newcomer of the Year as part of the All-SCIAC team selected by the coaches for the 2015 season. Thompson was the Panthers’ lone representative on the All-Conference team.

Men's tennis closes season fourth in SCIAC

The Chapman University men’s tennis team regular season came to a close on the second and final day of the SCIAC Championships hosted by Caltech. Chapman finished fifth overall in the tournament and fourth overall in SCIAC standings for its highest conference finish since joining the SCIAC in 2012.

Five Panthers reach Round of 32 at Ojai Tournament

Chapman University senior Justin Thompson reached the Round of 16 at the 115th Annual Ojai Valley Tournament to lead the Panthers in the regular season’s penultimate tournament. Thompson withdrew from his Round of 16 match, nursing an injury after defeating Pomona-Pitzer’s Marco Mandic in three sets in the Round of 32.

Tennis teams looking ahead to Ojai, SCIAC Tournaments

The Chapman men’s and women’s tennis teams dropped their regular season finales to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in 9-0 shutout losses over the weekend and now turn their attention to the 115th Annual Ojai Valley Tournament on April 23-26 before wrapping team play at the SCIAC Championships on May 1-3.

The Chapman University men’s tennis team defeated Whittier College in singles competitions and two of the three doubles competitions on Friday’s 8-1 Panther win at the Anaheim Hills Racquet Club.

The Chapman University men’s tennis team made things interesting on Saturday before falling to No. 3-ranked Middlebury College at the Chapman Tennis Courts, for its third consecutive loss. The No. 40-ranked Panthers had upset on their minds after taking two of three in doubles, but eventually succumbed dropping five of six in singles.

The Chapman University men’s tennis team had its three-match winning streak snapped with a loss to No. 1-nationally ranked Amherst College (Mass.) by a team score of 9-0 at the Chapman Tennis Courts on Wednesday afternoon.

Tennis teams sweep Salisbury at home

The Chapman University men's and women's tennis team swept Salisbury University (Md.) in a dual match at the Chapman Tennis Courts on Sunday afternoon. On the men’s side, the Panthers earned their second consecutive win in a row defeating Salisbury 7-2 while the No. 31-ranked women earned their second win of the season 6-3.

Tennis teams sweep Rochester

March 10, 2015

The Chapman University men’s and women’s tennis teams swept a rare home doubleheader with the University of Rochester (N.Y.) at the Chapman Tennis Courts on Tuesday. The men opened with a mini upset over the No. 40 nationally-ranked Yellowjackets 5-4 and the Panthers’ No. 31-ranked women earned their first win of the year 6-3.

Men's tennis sweeps singles to beat Concordia 8-1

The Chapman University men’s tennis team won its second match in a row and first one at home this season, defeating visiting Concordia College (Minn.) 8-1 at the Chapman Tennis Courts on Friday afternoon. The Panthers swept singles play convincingly, losing just one set in the entire match between courts two through six.

No. 31 Brandeis slips away from Panthers in singles

The Chapman University men’s tennis team dropped a close one to No. 31-nationally ranked Brandeis University (Mass.) by a team score of 6-3 at the Chapman Tennis Courts on Tuesday afternoon. After taking two of three in doubles, the Panthers lost five of six singles matches to fall to the Judges in a non-conference match.
