Men's tennis snaps losing streak with win over George Fox

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's tennis team snapped its three-match losing streak with a 5-4 victory over George Fox University (Ore.) on Tuesday afternoon at the Chapman Tennis Courts.

The Panthers opened the match dropping two of three in doubles action, with doubles team freshman Justin P. Thompson and sophomore Sam Mitteldorf securing the only win from the No. 3 spot 8-4.  Thompson and Mitteldorf have won three consecutive matches from the No. 3 spot and are 7-3 in their last ten matches.

From there, Chapman tied the match 2-2 with senior Justin Thompson earning straight set sweeps 6-2, 6-4 on court one. The Panthers then took the lead 3-2 with freshman Justin P. Thompson sweeping Bruin's Chris Liley 6-3, 6-4 in straight sets on court two.

After dropping the next two matches, Chapman's sophomore Charlie Werman (court 4) tied the match at 4-4 with a 7-5, 6-3, 7-5 victory over George Fox's Nicholas Grafton. The Panthers then clinched the match when Mitteldorf battled back from a 6-1 opening set loss to defeat Chace Stalcup 6-2, 6-1 in the final match of the day.

The Panthers (6-6 overall, 1-2 SCIAC) will host Lewis & Clark at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25 at the Chapman Tennis Courts before traveling to Anaheim Hills Racquet Club on Friday, March 27 for a SCIAC match against Caltech beginning at 2 p.m.
