Men's tennis opens 2016 with sweep of Linfield
ORANGE, Calif. – The 38th-ranked Chapman University men's tennis team began the 2016 season with a 9-0 sweep of Linfield on Friday. Chapman won all three doubles matches and then did not drop a set in singles to quickly grab the win.
Charlie Werman and Brett Buford won 8-3 at No. 1 doubles while Chris Damion and Josh Sarsfield won by the same score at No. 3. Sam Mitteldorf and Justin Thompson took the No. 2 match 8-2 to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead in the match.
Buford won 6-2, 6-0 at the top of the singles lineup while Mitteldorf took the 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 2. Werman easily took the No. 3 match 6-1, 6-3. Thompson came out on top at No. 4 6-1, 6-2 while Hunter Morris won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5. Brock DeHaven's 6-0, 6-1 win in the No. 6 match completed the sweep.
The Panthers are back on the courts at Anaheim Hills Tenis Club on Feb. 16 when the Panthers host Brandeis at 1 p.m.
