Men's tennis drops spring opener

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's tennis team opened its dual season with an 8-1 loss to visiting UC Santa Cruz on Sunday. The match began a stretch in which the Panthers will play eight of their first nine matches at home.

Freshman Lee Sadler earned the Panthers' point in a straight set win in the No. 6 match. He won 6-3, 6-3 to capture his first dual win.

The Banana Slugs swept all three doubles points but were pushed to a tiebreaker in the No. 1 match. Seniors Charlie Werman and Josh Sarsfield forced the 8-8 tie with UCSC's Ryan Dugan and Chadwick Stone but fell 9-8. The Banana Slug won the first five singles matches in straight sets to claim the win.

Chapman travels to Biola on Tuesday but is back at Anaheim Tennis Center on Mar. 5 against Christopher Newport.
