Men's tennis swept by Whittier

COSTA MESA, Calif. – The Chapman University men's tennis team suffered a 9-0 loss to Whittier on Friday. The Panthers will look to rebound tomorrow at Redlands.

The Poets swept the doubles matches but sophomores Mathew Mead and Brock DeHaven pushed the No. 2 match to the last point. The duo eventually fell 8-6 as Whittier took the 3-0 lead.

Whittier swept through five of the six singles matches. Freshman Len Kamemoto took the first set of the No. 5 match 6-1 but fell 7-5 to force the super tiebreak third set. In the race to 10 points, Kamemoto and Chris Palacio needed extra points to declare a winner. Palacio eventually took the advantage and pulled out the 1-6, 7-5, 1-0 (13-11) win to complete the sweep.

The Panthers host Redlands tomorrow as SCIAC play continues at the Seal Beach Tennis Center at 11:30 a.m.
