Men’s tennis notches first victory over Haverford

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's tennis team earned their first victory of the season with a 5-4 win over the visiting Haverford College Fords. Junior Len Kamemoto and sophomore Jacob Lee each walked away with victories on the singles and the doubles courts.

Chapman entered the singles matches with a 2-1 lead after Kamemoto and his partner Matthew Mead and Lee and senior Brock DeHaven each beat their doubles opponents 8-4.

Kamemoto, Lee and freshman Adrien Rooney each won their singles matches to help lift the Panthers to victory. Kamemoto won 6-1, 6-3 on the No. 1 court, followed by Rooney's 6-3, 6-3 victory on court No. 2 and Lee's 6-3, 6-2 victory on the third court.

Freshman Luke Bennett and senior Igor Belineli each fought back to take the second set after dropping their first sets, but fell in the 10-point tiebreaker. Bennett fell 4-6, 6-5, 0-1 (3-10) and Belineli fell 2-6, 6-4, 0-1 (4-10). Sophomore Blake Wilcox fell 1-6, 1-6 on the sixth and final court.

The Panthers return to the court on Friday, March 15 at 1 p.m. to host Vassar.
