Men’s tennis earns comeback win over PLU

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's tennis team added another win to their record after their 6-3 match against Pacific Lutheran on Thursday. The Panthers started the day in a 2-1 deficit after the doubles portion of the competition, but clawed their way back to win five of their six singles matches and earn the victory.

Sophomore Jacob Lee and freshman Adrien Rooney earned the Panthers first win of the day with their 8-3 match on court one. On courts two and three, partners Len Kamemoto and Matthew Mead as well as partners Elliot Gardner and Jordan Wagner both played close matches, but ultimately fell 8-7.

Kamemoto clinched the match for the Panthers with his 6-3, 6-1 win on court two. Rooney quickly defeated his opponent 6-0, 6-3 on court three, as did senior Brock DeHaven who scored 6-3, 6-1 to win on court six. Freshman Luke Bennett won his match on court five 6-4, 6,1.

On court one, Lee came back after a losing first set to win the Panther's sixth and final point of the day, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. After a long match, senior Igor Belineli narrowly fell to his opponent 6-4, 1-6, 11-9.

On Saturday the team will travel to Whittier College for their first SCIAC meet of the season.
