Rooney earns second SCIAC singles victory in team loss to No. 4 CMS

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's tennis team fell 8-1 to No. 4 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps earlier Friday afternoon. Freshman Adrien Rooney earned his second SCIAC singles victory with a dominant 6-3, 6-2 victory on the No. 3 court.

The Stags took an early 3-0 lead after sweeping the doubles courts. Sophomore Jacob Lee and Rooney fell 8-3 on the No. 1 court while seniors Brock DeHaven and Matthew Mead and doubles partners Len Kamemoto and Luke Bennett each fell 8-4 on the No. 2 and No. 3 courts respectively.

Lee fell on the No. 1 court 3-6, 2-6 while Kamemoto dropped the No. 2 court 3-6, 0-6. Rooney's singles opponent gave him a tough match, but the rookie came out victorious on the third court.

Senior Igor Belineli dropped his match on the No. 4 court 0-6, 2-6 while Mead fell 1-6, 1-6 on the No. 5 court and DeHaven fell 2-6, 0-6 on the sixth and final court.

The Panthers head out on the road for the next week but return to Lastinger Tennis Center on Saturday, April 13 to host Caltech at 10 a.m.
