Men's tennis defeats Oxy in season finale

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's tennis team closed out the 2022 season with a 5-4 win over visiting Occidental on Sunday. The Panthers erased a doubles deficit to claim the season-ending victory at the Anderson Tennis Center.

After falling behind 2-1 in doubles, the Panthers captured four singles victories – the final one in a third set – to come away with the team win. Mac Caldwell fought through a three-set match to get the clinching 6-2, 6-7, 6-4 victory in the No. 4 match.

Chapman won its other singles matches in straight sets. Caleb Wilkins, who may secure an individual bid to the national tournament, rebounded from back-to-back losses with an easy 6-1, 6-1 victory in the top singles match. Danny Marsh won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 and Andy Hess won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6.

Kameron DeHart and Tommy Hays won 8-1 in the No. 3 doubles match to claim Chapman's only doubles point. DeHart took his singles match into a third set before falling in the No. 2 match.

The 2022 season came to a close with the victory. Chapman finished the year 6-11 overall and 2-5 in the SCIAC.
