Ploessel earns win No. 100 atop men's water polo program

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's water polo team extended its school-record win streak to 10 on Wednesday and in the process, notched career coaching win No. 100 for Panthers' head coach Eric Ploessel. Division III's No. 2-ranked Chapman defeated host Occidental College 15-8 at Taylor Pool to keep the Panthers undefeated in conference play.

At 13-7 overall (4-0 SCIAC), Chapman is enjoying its best season ever in terms of winning percentage (.650) and is currently tied for first place in the SCIAC at the halfway point in the conference regular season schedule. The Panthers did not lose a match in October, going a perfect 10-0. They are just two wins shy of the school record of 15, set in 2011.

Ploessel earned career win No. 100 (all with the Panthers) after seven-plus seasons as head coach of the Chapman men's program. He also has 133 career victories as the head coach of Chapman's women's program, which he has led for the past 11 seasons.

In the match, Chapman jumped out to a 7-2 lead at halftime and never looked back. The Panthers were led by seniors Chase Middlesworth and Jake Gross who scored three goals apiece.

The Panthers return home on Saturday to host the University of La Verne in a SCIAC match at 11 a.m. After that, Chapman hits the road for two of its final three SCIAC games which will determine seeding for the SCIAC Championships at Redlands in three weeks.
