Men's water polo preps for SCIAC Tournament

ORANGE, Calif. – The No. 4 Chapman University men's water polo team heads into the SCIAC Tournament this weekend, hosted by the University of La Verne. The Panthers (14-10, 6-2 SCIAC) matched their SCIAC record from last season to pull into a three-way tie for second place with Whittier and Redlands.

Due to the three-way tiebreaker, the Panthers enter the tournament as the No. 4 seed. Chapman will face fifth-seeded Cal Lutheran at 1:45 p.m. on Chapman. The winner will face the winner of top-seeded Claremont and the play-in match winner in Saturday's semifinal.

Chapman may be one of the hottest teams in the SCIAC entering the tournament after dramatic 18-17 overtime win against Whittier. The Panthers battled Division I No. 17 Air Force until the very end last weekend before falling by a goal.

Reigning SCIAC Male Athlete of the Week Willis Allen will lead the Panthers into the tournament. He scored 21 goals in three matches last week, including back-to-back matches with nine goals. Senior Stephen Neil defends the net for Chapman, averaging nearly 11.5 blocks per game while owning a 10.88 goals against average.
