Panthers fall to Redlands in SCIAC home opener

ORANGE, Calif. –  Chapman University men's water polo fell to the University of Redlands 17-7 in its SCIAC home-opener at Allred Pool on Saturday. Panther sophomore Brady Hoskins and senior Corey Plaster recorded a pair of goals each for Chapman.

The Bulldogs took an early lead in the first quarter to go ahead 5-3. Hoskins netted two of the three Panther goals, keeping them in the game.

Chapman came out strong in the second quarter to score two early goals to tie the score at 5-all. Redlands did not back down, answering with four goals of their own to take a four-point lead going into halftime.

Junior Christopher Garau scored the only Panther goal of the third quarter off a back-hand shot that was assisted by Hoskins, but Redlands increased their lead to 11-6. Garau led the Panthers with three assists and four earned ejections.

The Bulldogs continued to strike, going on a 6-1 run in the fourth quarter to make the final score 17-7.

The Panthers travel to UC Irvine on Tuesday, Oct. 18 and return to SCIAC play on Wednesday, Oct. 19 to host Caltech at Allred Olympic Pool.
