Softball awarded for work in the classroom

The Chapman University softball team earned academic recognition from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association for its work in the classroom earlier this week. The Panthers rank 82nd out of 117 Division III schools with a team GPA of 3.344 and 15 student-athletes earned Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar Athletes accolades.

Chapman University’s student-athletes matched their record number with 221 SCIAC All-Academic selections in for the 2018-19 school year. The Panthers had the fourth-most selections of the nine schools in the SCIAC.

Tokunaga earns All-Region honors

Sophomore sensation Mykala Tokunaga earned All-Region First Team honors earlier this afternoon after a stellar rookie season for the Panthers. The award comes after she led the team its first SCIAC Tournament appearance since the 2017 season.

Softball falls 3-1 in elimination game

The Chapman University softball team ended its 2019 season with a 3-1 loss to No. 1-seed Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the elimination game of the SCIAC Postseason Tournament. Senior Samantha Whalen knocked in the Panthers’ lone run in the effort.

Softball drops SCIAC Tournament opener to Pomona-Pitzer

The Chapman University softball team fell 6-2 to second-seeded Pomona-Pitzer in the opening game of the SCIAC Tournament. The Panthers will face top-seeded Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

Four Panthers named to All-SCIAC squad

Four members of the Chapman University softball team earned All-SCIAC honors this afternoon after helping the squad to an 18-10 ledger in conference play and a No. 3 seed in the upcoming SCIAC Postseason Tournament. Senior Samantha Whalen and sophomore Mykala Tokunaga were named to the First Team while junior Michaela Foisy and senior Christine LoVerde earned Second Team honors.

On her Senior Day, Emily Claudy tossed her best game of the season and has been selected as the final SCIAC Pitcher of the Week for the season. She became the first Chapman pitcher to earn the award this season.

Softball clinches three seed with Senior Day sweep

April 27, 2019

The seniors of the Chapman University softball team celebrated the end of the regular season with an 8-0, 4-3 sweep of Redlands on Saturday. The Panthers clinched the No. 3 seed in net week’s SCIAC Tournament, concluding the SCIAC season with an 18-10 record.

The Chapman University softball team clinched a spot in the upcoming SCIAC Tournament with a doubleheader split against La Verne on Friday. The Panthers (17-21, 16-10 SCIAC) won the first game 2-1 but fell 6-4 in the second game.

The Chapman University softball team fell 10-9 and 15-6 to Pomona-Pitzer in a SCIAC doubleheader. Junior Michaela Foisy had a hit in both games and has now been on base in 21 straight games.

Whalen earns SCIAC award for second time

Senior Samantha Whalen helped lead the Chapman softball team to a perfect 4-0 week, earning SCIAC Hitter of the Week for the second time this year. Whalen helped the Panthers to a sweep of Cal Lutheran on Wednesday afternoon, followed by a huge sweep of Whittier on Saturday.

The Chapman University softball team stayed perfect in the month of April, sweeping the visiting Whittier College Poets 5-2, 10-9 earlier this afternoon. The Panthers were led by a couple of seniors in the box, in the circle and in the field. Samantha Whalen earned her second win of the season as pitcher and Christine Lo Verde hit 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBIs

Softball pulls off double walk-off to earn conference sweep

April 03, 2019

The Chapman University softball team swept its conference doubleheader against Cal Lutheran on Wednesday afternoon. In game one the Panthers walked off in the bottom of the sixth to win 9-1, followed by an 11-10 walk-off win in the night cap.

Softball suffers tough sweep despite hot bats against No. 13 CMS

March 30, 2019

The Chapman University softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to No. 13 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 12-7 and 7-4. The Panthers swept both games on Friday at La Verne to remain at .500 in the SCIAC with a record of 7-7. Junior Samantha Tong had four hits in the doubleheader.

The Chapman University softball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader to the visiting SUNY Cortland Red Dragons earlier this afternoon. Senior Samantha Whalen helped the Panthers in the batter’s box and in the circle, tallying two hits while also striking out two batters in the second game.

The Chapman University softball team fell 5-0 and 6-1 to No. 10 Williams College in a non-conference doubleheader at El Camino Real Park. The Panthers have played eight of their last 10 games against ranked opponents, including six games against teams in the top-10.
